On Sunset’s Doorstep

“struggle”

I can weave your pain into vines of pills,
but it will tumble you into a numb slumber
on the Sunday sloping downward to melancholy,
like the meager pinecones that drop effortlessly.

I can show you more than chemical collapse,
so you can sharpen the eager daylight
-slipping upward through branches beyond
into the rainbows of an uncaptured nature.

Let loose your hand from the door
and walk with your heart ahead,
to the sightless brush
that paints us in our lost element.

Opening Fantasy

“intense fantasy”

My reality is stuffed with rules,
but here the catacombs open
and the open possibilities overflow
like a sunset on the oceans
in all directions a warm breeze.

My extinguished peace cries,
but my story swells with adventure
like a dragon meeting fire.

Clawing for Purpose

“Our world recycles souls, wiping our memories clean after every death. You wake up in the body of (animal of your choosing) locked up and on display in a Zoo. This time, you remember everything…”

What are these claws I carry?
I reach only forward and I see sand
flickering through my grasp,
like someone’s smoky vision
implanted in my brain.

My head reverberates,
clicking against the shells,
that share my confusion.

I see hell in every pulsing
shade from the red lights above.

I remember my human service,
once pressed onto this Earth
in a busy reckless bundle.

Now I scuttle with too many legs,
and pause for every bubble
drifting, shimmering, guideless.

Webs of Strangers

“Write about strangers.”

Every bracket of flesh on this landmark
that we call Earth, is stranger once.

In every trail there is a passerby,
a clear pity on the roads.
We strut our burdens together,
in a miser’s maze of conflict
and heart’s lost verse.

We are the stones in the creek,
a lost collection seeking investment.
We cuddle our webbing fates,
binding our rattling fiction
into one pool of strange togetherness.

The Apple Pie Mindset

“Write a poem about how emotions are stupid”

I begin – on a crawling, uncalibrated distance
in a cowardly morning that grumbles away
in my numb dimness- unlatched from sleep.

because memories spilled my dreams
like the icy veins of snowflakes crying
and my tongue and skin go blind like iron.

My head teasing ragged melodies-
echos from last night’s smoldering sleep
like an apple pie unbaking on my pillow.

I begin unsteady because I feel,
the world, the touchless sunlight, the morning
is an ether that stretches my limbs like pretzels
encrusted with falling salt, unscraped by hunger.

when weather digs dreams in the doughy soul-
every morning the lush, sanitizing waking.

Toast loves Milk

“Milk and toast.”

On the kitchen counter she waits:
delicate and raw; pale and melodious.
My crusted dreams carrying this vista
of the real bliss in the kitchen sitting
before my unripe eyes she gores my world.
With one splash, a coy white dive;
all curves into glass- escaping the carton cage.

All fragments of melancholy dispatched in cinders,
and a new tingling begins below my edge
as I sink into the calming coals of the toaster.
Here I feel the deft flames tighten my skin
and my crumbling becomes a hardened rattle.

I see nothing, but flickering of digging fire-
pulling me into their black meddling; smoke.
Too awake for shedding my dreams, I feel
her wet caress in the distance; calling me ready.
My crust stretching blackness, sealing the wait.

As my height gropes air, and I tumble a sigh
my existence of bread unshackled, metamorphed
poised like a prince, fresh from flight, another sigh.
There the glass rests, upon the counter it grips
but an emptiness. A colossal bottomless nothing.

All seeking is shed and my terminal entrails
drift into an unbridled tide of littering pieces
with the falling below, my world tipsy dizzy
until the distance takes my wheat and white dreams.

Robot Cheney

“Dick Cheney’s Robot Heart”

He growls upon darker paths,
like a metal moss moving
to enrich a rusty madness
bringing the pitch black home.

He spears us; until we swallow gallows,
and he wafts all peace away
with every triangulated plot that
he constructs. Oily black plans.

Now, we gather patience for his grave,
waiting for his metal to rust,
but his heart beats on,
til’ the smog covers his husk.

Threadless and Frothing

“Suddenly, every person in the world can visibly see a thread that connects them with their significant other. On hearing this, you realize that you don’t have a thread connecting to anyone.”

All these wrinkling villagers, touching animosity
on their quilted threads of indelible fantasy,
thinking that I could withstand their forever stillness.

I can’t drag my skin
to their groves of pandering love,
because my life is free, no need
for needling bees and frothing wasps.

The sealed fashions bubble blonde:
bouncing their bootleg webs
as I twist their knots into a passing laugh.

Still, the colony limited to tied strings,
not the honey-thrum of the wild
which whets my distinction, there-
my appetite for a threadless existence.

Onward Downward Falling

“dizzy vertical drops”

The air in my head formed a pretzel,
salty and fashioned like hard bread,
unbundling my sanity on the fall
Onward, the memories  plunge into me.

wind howling with ancient tempest
all purpose taken by the scooping clouds,
I feel my neurons screech criminally
they break and crack, raspy; crunch.
Onward, the sky screams into me.

Into the dizzy blue, all past above,
controls blasting away from memory
panicked knots of visions hot, singeing the sky.
Onward, the Earth plunges into me,
one shadow flickering through sharp branches.

Gratitude and Anniversary

Grandma and Grandpa’s 60th Anniversary Poem

They travel the wide open
unconfined spirits, unlimited love
prospering from west to east,
with suitcases packed with gratitude.

Their devotion spreads unbounded,
unending, everlasting and dedicated.
A royal legacy sprung forth
from every hug and affection.

Their favor has flown far,
highly anticipated sincerity
in every home, selfless
with every warm smile renewed.

Their sixty years inspired here
this gladness come together
today’s legacy, our united cheer,
always your anniversary impressed.
